10 New Year’s Resolutions to add to your list in 2023

We love a New Year as it symbolizes a fresh start and a clean slate that offers so much potential for growth and success. The result of our year is entirely up to us, and this is the reason why we take the time to reflect and come up with New Year’s Resolutions.

So, as you are coming up with amazing goals to crush like eating healthier, or losing or gaining weight, we have a few more healthy goals to consider adding to your list to make the year more enriching as well as productive.

Quick tip: Take the time to reflect onpast resolutions.

Consider what kind of goals you’re setting. This year, be mindful of how you state them and come up with actionable plans and make sure you enjoy them. Breaking up large goals like “I want to lose weight” into “I want to exercise three times a week” sets you up for success that’s within reach and reasonable.

1. Try a new style of fitness each month

One thing that causes most of us to fail miserably with our fitness resolutions is that we set ourselves up with routines that may work for others but may not be as enjoyable to us. Or you may have found yourself constantly plateauing easily and getting bored with the same routine that you’ve been doing for the past years.

This year, consider exploring new workout styles each month if you haven’t already. This could spark a new interest and motivate you to push yourself further than before.

Some activities you may want to try:

  • Yoga
  • Pilates
  • HIIT
  • Circuit Training
  • Strength Training
  • Cardio Training
  • Weight Training

2. Take time for self-care

Schedule regular alone timesfor self-care at least once a month to welcome some introspection and decompression. We are often the last person on our priority list when our lives are muddled with work and family responsibilities. Being reminded of putting yourself first can have a massive beneficial impact on your physical and mental health. You can spend time doing these activities you’ve always wanted to try but never had the time to, or simply planning a relaxing day at home for rest and enjoying a cuppa tea.

3. Limit your screen time

There are way too many studies on the benefits of limiting one’s screen time. From lowered stress and anxiety levels, improved sleep habits, better focus and brain function, a boost in physical activity, reducing eye strain and more!

This year, consider limiting your screen time starting with at least an hour a day to encourage more productivity and healthy activities in your life.

4. Do one thing every day to strengthen relationships

It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day stresses of life and neglect the relationships that are important to us. But putting the work into your relationships at least once daily can significantly impact your overall well-being and those around you.

Set aside time for a quick catch-up call, a dinner date, or an activity you both love doing with your spouse, your family, or friends. Any little act of kindness and love will go a long way.

5. Focus on better sleep hygiene

If the past years had you losing sleep, it’s time to change that. Let’s be honest,it’ll be tough to achieve all the goals for the year without cultivatinghealthy sleeprituals. Aside from helping boost your athletic performance and achievingbest results at the gym, better sleep can help you steer clear from plenty ofnegative effects like diabetes and impaired glucose tolerance, a weakened immune system, high blood pressure, and more.

6. Commit to a gratitude practice

Gratitude has been shown to increase happiness, improve resilience, and even help manage depression. A solid gratitude practice also leaves you way more grounded as it helps you focus on the good things in your life.

You can do so by having a game plan and incorporating it daily. A simple and common way of tackling this task is by:

  • writing down a couple of things you’re grateful for in your day
  • taking the time to appreciate nature and all the little things around you
  • taking the time to write a positive review on local businesses and brands you love to show your support

7. Declutter the problem area at least once a week

We all have that one spot in our room or closet that’s always left disorganized. Remember, mess can cause stress! And this year, we’re here to hit two birds with one stone. Personally, I have that one chair in the room that holds all the clothes that aren’t dirty enough to be in the laundry but not clean enough to be in the closet. Guilty! Am I the only one?

This year, instead of leaving it for weeks at a time until re-organizing them, consider breaking the habit by dedicating the weekends to tidy up the spot to rid it from stacking up.

8. Exercise your brain

Learn something neweach month! There are too many ways to go about this. Whether you’d prefer to read one book each month, learn anewskill orrecipe each month, orlisten to an informative podcast you enjoy on your downtime – taking the time to learn something new each month helps you broaden your mindset and help keep each month more interesting.

9. Build a better budget

If there’s one resolution to help you in the long run, it would be creating a game plan to get your finances and savings in order. There’s no denying that the past years have been difficult for everyone on a global scale, so it’s only right to prepare for your future today.

This month is the perfect time to draft out a plan you can stick to for the rest of the year’s daily or monthly budgeting. This would also prompt you to foresee all your plans that require budget set aside whether it be for a quick family getaway or for that new home equipment you’ve been wanting!

10. Be more mindful of your overall wellbeing

We know fitness resolutions take the spotlight every year. However, there’s more to it than just adding “diet” or “lose weight” on your list. Instead, put your focus on overall wellness this year. Consider digging deeper and looking at what you consume, how your body feels with certain types of foods, diets, and workouts.

Remember, your health and wellbeing should be your top priority to keeping up with all your grandiose goals this 2023!
